I've just put my scooter on its centrenstand and one of the bolts has snapped in half
that goes through the j plate
Has anyone had this happen if so what could cause it
does anyone know where I can get a replacement bolt

Probably metal fatigue, rust or both.

Your local welding and fasteners supplier will have bolts to fit.
