Re: IOW Engine fails
Just to muddy the water; my local garage has had its pumps marked up as E10 for a couple of weeks. I asked them when they actually changed over and they said they hadn't and were still pumping E5. They (Shell) have a contractor going round changing the pump stickers ahead of the actual changeover. T...

Muffler impact on power?
Love an answer on this based on real world testing as opposed to theory or opinion
So, if you replace a straight tailpipe with a perforated muffler of the same length and internal diameter, what if any impact is there on power/torque/characteristics?

I’m sure Darrell knows +\- 1 mph! [emoji6] He does, I'm just stimulating debate...  Well if we’re talking about traditional group 6 with vega legshields, I don’t think there’d be much difference (could even be slower) In a good streamliner, I’d guess 150+ Dunno - interesting stuff [emoji...

Here is a video of the man in action and a bit of the scooter specification too: https://youtu.be/jYw-Df75Olg :ugeek: Looks like fun, wonder what that engine would do in a cut/raked frame with slim/low leggies?! I’m sure Darrell knows +\- 1 mph! https://www.scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29198&hilit=dynabike That was a great discussion. I love that you quietly gather masses of (real world) data to calibrate the software, use the software to indicate the required engine characteristics, develop the engine, and then knock...

Re: Main bearing alignment?
By flex, I meant there would be static tension across the crank due to bearing misalignment, rather than dynamic flex at RPM. This would sap power and increase wear on the mains. Regarding flex at rpm, there is a very old 2-bearing in-line 4 engine that flexes like nobodies business. When people tri...

Re: Main bearing alignment?
I've never had to check, but I understand that if alignment was likely to be out, due to extensive welding, then axial alignment would need it. Unless I pulled in a favour with somebody that works in a machine shop with XYZ inspection facilities, I suppose the crankcase/magneto flange assembly coul...

Main bearing alignment?
Anyone check that their mains are truly aligned before doing a final fit on the crank?
If you do, how? Bar with bearing ID?
Thanks
